Armstrong Browning Library
Texas Attractions: Armstrong Browning Library
Location: On the campus of Baylor University, at the corner of 8th Street and Speight Avenue
About the Armstrong Browning Library:
The Armstrong Browning Library is a museum and research facility dedicated to the lives and works of British Victorian poets Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning (The Armstrong in the name is Dr. A.J. Armstrong, a former English department head at Baylor, whose vision the library fulfills).
In fact, the Armstrong Browning Library houses the world's largest collection of works related to the Brownings.
However, even someone not interested in the Brownings themselves will be fascinated by a visit to the Armstrong Browning Library, because the building that houses it is a masterpiece.
The library's home features very high ceilings, intricate woodwork, polished bookcases, a large Wedgewood china collection and many rare books. But the highlight of the building itself is its 59 stained-glass windows, each of which depicts themes from the Brownings' poetry.
The Armstrong Browning Library is open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m.-noon. Group tours can be arranged. There is no admission charge.
